Nickle Finish
I have a Colt MK V that is nickle plated. When you open the cylinder you can see a copper color on the front chambers. I also have a couple of flaking spots above the trigger guard. You can notice these places quite a bit. Should I have this refinished to prevent any further damage? Also who would you send your gun to to do this work?
Thanks,

Can nickle finish be removed semi easily so a gun can be blued?
There is a smith 357 that looks great exept for the nickle finish.

The nickle is not readily removed. Also depends is plated or electroless. To do this properly they need to be stripped. If this is electroless (e-nickle) it is one of the best coatings around. 0 -
Brownell's offers a nickel plate stripping kit for about $40. Consists of two chemicals you mix with water. Disassemble and clean the gun of grease and put the parts in the mixture. Takes from a few hours to over night to remove the nickel plate, depending on how thick, protected places etc. Leaves the metal a kind of gray color, ready to start refinishing. Kit has enough chemical to strip a number of guns. I have used it several time and it works fine on nickel. Won't touch chrome. 0
