Unless the mount is one that does not eliminate the original sights, or it is a mount that uses the existing holes and requires no further drilling, etc. to the revolver, and you still have the original sights, the presence of the red dot can detract from value rather than enhance.

With standard sights and in top condition you could get as much as $500 for it with custom grips. With the RD you may be looking at $350-400 ... but without pictures and more info it is just a guess.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

I agree with Contender Man. I saw an example of that in an auction for a 6-1/2" Model 24 with a red-dot recently. The Model 24 is the blued version of the gun your father left you. I believe that one sold for a bit over $400. I've seen the same gun sell for over $500 in excellent (and all original) condition.

Scopes of any kind will often keep a gun from bringing top dollar. Any markings left on the gun by a "no-gunsmithing" type mount will also usually detract from the value. Depending on the brand of the custom grips, you might do better with the factory originals.

The 624 with 6-1/2" barrel was only made from 1984-'87, so it's not a model that's all that common. If you really must sell it, you might as well try for top dollar on it, right? Original factory accessories (box, paperwork & cleaning tools) will also add to the resale value of most any gun. Yours is no exception there either, but it really would be helpful to have more info before we lead to to believe your gun is absolutely worth a certain dollar amount. There are no absolutes in gun pricing.

Please accept my condolences for the loss of your father. I'd have a really hard time selling any of the guns my Dad left behind. The ones he left didn't have a huge monetary value in the marketplace, but to my brother and I, they're priceless. I can only imagine how hard the decision to sell must be for you....

    Best regards,
    Mark
