I've had three; still have 2. I had a bottom-end San Uberto 1 in 12 guage. Hell for stout, lousy wood, great metal but too heavy for upland, even with 25" barrels. This gun was made in the 1970s. Got rid of it for a better handling 12.

I still have a 1960s vintage "Deluxe Woodcock" 20 guage mag which used to be imported by Stoegers. Bought it used and it is my main grouse gun. I've used it for years and never had any problems--ejectors work 100%, too. Really kicks with 3" "magnumbs" but why would you use those for upland anyway unless you're in open pheasant country (where I use a 16).

Also have a pre-war Bernadelli 16 boxlock non-ejector made in the 1930s. Had to have the checkering recut but all the rest is original and works great. I think it is the older version of the San Uberto 1 (lowest grade field gun). Great pheasant and duck jump-shooting gun with "field chokes"--Cylinder and Full.

I would recommend Bernadelli's except for the following caveats: 1) older ones tend to have VERY plain wood in the lower grades; and 2)guage for guage they are a bit heavier than comparable price guns. That last makes them stout mechanisms but might make a difference if you're getting that 28 for a featherweight grouse slayer, especially if you get the longer barrels that make a 28 swing better.

You need to wave that puppy around a little before you buy it!
