1891 marlin
I recently bought a marlin 1891, side load, 22lr It has excellent wood and is very tight, but the bore is well worn (no rust) and the outside metal has had all the blueing buffed off with steel wool.
What is this gun worth and will it deminish the value any more if I blue it.

w/o more detail on the rifle it is not possible to say much other than who ever took the steel wool to it really tanked the value, and re-bluing it will not improve the situation.
rough guess would be $300-500+
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
A GOOD REBLUE WILL MAKE IT LOOK GOOD AND A RELINED BARREL WILL MAKE IT SHOOT GOOD. BOTH SHOULD COST $150/200. AS IT IS NOW YOU HAVE A $100 WALL HANGER. 0 -
1891 is an Antique and the side loader was the 1st Variation. Book on these is over $300 at 10% conditon. So the issue is the steel wool treatment and if that would make the value sub-10% and IMHO it might not.
