Yup; well, except for removing the ejector, grip screw bushings, and plunger tube on the left side for slidestop/safety detent pins and springs, because these things don't move and are a royal pain in the butt to remove. Don't worry though, taking everything apart is actually pretty simple...just make sure you have the right size drift punch for the mainspring housing pin (which is easier to remove when you let the hammer [slowly!] forward, BTW).

After you do it a few times, you'll be able to do it blindfolded.

P.S. - For more than you ever wanted to know about 1911's, their specs, disassembly/assembly, and modification, get Jerry Kuhnhausen's books. If you read/understand/memorize these, you'll be a 1911 god.

    Clean and Lube, Routine:
Lead bullet use every 300-500 rounds
Jacketed bullet use every 500-700 rounds
    Carry pistols once a month
    Clean and Lube, Thorough:
Every 5,000 rounds and/or every 3 months your pistol should be completely disassembled, cleaned and lubricated.

Does this mean COMPLETELY DISASSEMBLED? And does this go for most guns?

Good schedule, but being from the "old school" I clean and lube the upper after each use regardless of round count.

One round or 500, it all comes apart and gets the full treatment. Of course I love to take apart and reassemble 1911's.

I don't know about everyone else or whether the piece actually needs cleaning after each use--but I do. Had it drummed into my head by my father and later by a Marine Gsgt to do it. Matter of fact Gunny told us that if we turned in a piece that had not been cleaned properly or needed cleaning He would personally go through it and if he could find one tiny peck of rust on the piece that he would see to it that the cost of that piece would come out of our pay. I believed him too.

if i hadnt cleaned my gun after each use, i never would have caught the cracks in my slide rails on my sig 226. i clean my guns after every use. no telling what youll find in there. the next day out would have killed me. the reason the military drills it in your head to clean every day, is that your gun has to work for everyone else too. in an armory situation, you may not get the same gun every time or if your buddy goes down, you might need his gun...and you'd want it working when you picked it up! one sheet of music. its a nice thing.
