I never tried Brownell's baking enamel, but I have never been unhappy with anything I got from Brownell's.
What I have used is Rust-O-Leum and Krylon high temperature stove paint in flat black. Get the metal CLEAN. Shoot 2 or 3 light coats. Bake in momma's oven for a couple of hours or overnight at about 250 degrees. Makes the kitchen stink, but makes a good hard finish.

Gunkote is also applied in a similar fashion. Be sure to use an airbrush to apply it rather than using the stuff in a spray can.

I have used the Gun Kote. It is actually made by Kal Gard. This was about 20 yrs ago and the finish has held up perfectly on a home defense 870 that spent all it's time leaning behind the door until last year when it became a turkey gun. Hunting in the rain has no effect on it.
