Westley Richards Rifles

I have run across a Westley Richards .318 Accelerated Express rifle
in excellent conditon. I am an avid Weatherby collector, but am way
out of my area on this one. I have a letter from WESTLEY RICHARDS GUN
& RIFLE MAKERS stating that the gun was made in 1913. It is a Best
Quality Mauser with stippled front ring, charcoal blued bolt release,
silver escutcheon, Indian sight requirements which is three folding
leafs and a standing rail with sliding adjustment (500 Yards),a horn
forend cap, sling eye on barrel. Gun was ordered with non horizontal
grain for maximum strength. Gun has a six round magazine with safety
follower. Stock has checkered forend and pistol grip. Beautiful stock
with vertical fiddleback from steel buttplate to forend. I am grading
this gun at a good 90% to 95%. Like I said I am out of my area on this one. If anyone could advise on approximate value, please do.

    You need a hand-on appraisal from a KNOWLEDGEABLE & HONEST collector or dealer.

    If your getting into commercial Mausers in a big way, you might consider picking up a copy of this book, "Mauser:Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles" by Speed, Schmid & Herrmann.

    To use as a comparison, I have a Westley Richards that was appraised four years ago for $7500.00. Here is the description;
    .375 cal. rimless bolt action Mauser action, 3 leag express sights, blue 100% floor plate engraved w/ gold lions head & gold scroll. Quick detachable mounts w/scope (Zeiss). Gun in a fitted case.
    Use this info as a ballpark figure.
