Most popular on 27-2(Blued or nickel)finish(Why)?
1)What is the most popular finish, on a(NIB)S&W model 27-2(Blued or nickel?)and why?
2)I would like to hear from owners of these guns-and, would appreciate any comments(And, facts?)about the Pro's or, Con's, of the nickel finish versus the blued finish?

Nickle is a good tough finish and it looks nice, but I don't care for the increased reflection from the finish.
And S&W sold more blue than nickle so I guess that would answer the popularity side of your question.

SaxonPig:
1)Thanks for the neat pictures-both your M-27's look great!
2)Despite the fact that the grips on your nickel M-27, are the incorrect ones-if I buy that NIB(Nickel)m-27-2, I'll be interested in obtaining a pair of those wrong grips? If so, would you want to sell yours?
3)I'm not rough on anything that I own(So, I probably wouldn't have to worry about beating up a nickel M-27?)however, aside from that seemingly high, $550 price, for that NIB M-27-2(Nickel)gun, I was "Leary" of buying a nickel gun(Since I didn't know how durable, the nickel finish, might be(Since I never owned a nickel gun before?))and this was why I was seeking answers on this forum(Hopefully, some more M-27(Nickel)owners, will offer some more input)? If I can swing the right deal on this nickel M-27-2(And, if it isn't that bad to own a nickel S&W)then, I'll feel more comfortable, "Springing" fot this gun? I'm a "Newbie" regarding the M-27-and, I would appreciate any additional input I can get?0 -
SaxonPig; Do you know if that nickled 27 was regular issue for FHP? I have a Colt Trooper in nickle with a 5" barrel that has an FHP number stamped on it. I've seen 5 " Troopers, 4" nickled Pythons, and 4" blue 28's carried by FHP before they went to autos. Never knew they had 27's. The only 28's I saw were carried by reserve troopers, everyone else carried nickled guns.

Now that you've posted where it is, I can just see it under the cylinder. That's an awesome revolver. The Troopers they used were the old style guns on the Python frame which puts them back in the 50's or '60's. Colt didn't offer the Trooper in 5" so they must have been special order guns. The FHP number on mine is stamped on the butt where the S/N would be on a Smith. Aimhigh; sorry I highjacked your topic. I have a 27 with a 5" barrel in blue. It's great, but I kick myself for not getting one of the 3 1/2" guns when they were available.
