H&R 45-70 good or bad
A friend from work asked me to get an opinion (S) on an
H&R 45-70 single shot.He said it is with a 32 or 34 inch
barrel, not sure which it was.He wanted to know was it worth
a darn? Thanks

You make no mention of model so can only give you a general answer that for the money they are typically good value, servicable firearms.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
even thought these are moder mgf. they are not any stronger than the original trap door (i assume trap door as the break actions don't have a 32/34" barrel). 0 -
I used to have a H&R carbine. Got it right after they came out. Good, serviceable weapon and shot O.K. As my memory serves me H&R had a manufacturing modification in the trap lock-up. I think it had a pinned cam latch on the trap door that (reportedly)could cause trouble/ altho mine never did. I could be corrected on this, but I believe it was as stated. If the price is right, buy it!
GRAMMA STILL THINKS I'M NUMBER ONE!0 -
Mike,
The "Buffalo Classic" has a 32" bbl.
Excellent shooter BTW.[^]

THANKS, BOBBIE; I HADN'T THOUGHT ABOUT THE BUFFALO CLASSIC. SEVERAL COWBOY SHOOTERS IN OUR CLUB HAVE HAD THE H&R'S (BOTH RIFLE & CARB.) AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THEM 'POPING OPEN' WHEN FIRED WITH 'WARM' LOADS. HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS WHEN USING LIGHTER LOADS. 0
