Favorite .357 self defense ammo? 125gr JHP?
Mostly interested in preferred weight and brand.
I plan to reload .38's for target practice.
Thanks.

I pack a .45 acp revolver with 230 gr. Federal Hydro-Shok JHP, My wife a .38 Special with Federal 110 gr. Hydro-Shok JHP Personal Defense. Just our preference--not set in stone though. Main thing is to never carry handloads in a weapon you might have to use in defense, especially if you live in a non-friendly environment --either political or social. I have a Series 70 .45acp in the completing stages and when done it will replace the revolver. 0 -
I always keep 125 grain CCI-Speer Gold Dot hollow points in my .357 and I have fired them into various mediums and they perform very nicely. 0 -
I use 110 grain .357 in snubbies and 125 grain .357 in 4" 0 -
I like Winchester's 145 gr Silvertip hp. 0 -
Saxon, I agree with you that there are still quite a few areas of the country that do not have the anti-gun attitude yet, but hey, the anti-gun(anti-gun people)areas are growing. Here in East Tennessee the local Sheriff is a pro-gun Sheriff, but he replaced an anti-gun Sheriff who had served 3 terms in office, and was pictured prominently with Bill Clinton in his anti-gun photo ops. I once sat on a jury in a lst degree murder trial. The first thing the defense attorney did in his opening arguments was to establish that the defendant had used a "registered" handgun and commercially purchased factory ammo is his "defense" of his life. He came back to the ammo when he put his client on the stand to try to establish him as a law abidding citizen. It was not lost on the jury that he was in effect trying to pre-empt the prosecution on the ammo question and basically saying that only a criminal would use that "high powered, destructive" handloaded ammo. Everyone else is free to do as he or she pleases but I usually err on the side of safety. I am not about to give some young, agressive district attorney a chance to make a reputation for himself at my expense. Mostly, people on juries know absolutely nothing about guns or ammo and I think in the future you will see more of that "lack of knowledge" used against defendants who have used guns to defend themselves. It just the times we live in Saxon, and I hope and pray that sanity will return to our nation---but until then--- 0 -
My wife will load nothing in her CCW but 125gr sjhpst
she shoots them at the range like they are free.
just can't get it tru her head that other ammo can be used at the range.[:(]
But hey atleast she will spend the day at the range with me so I can't complain.[:D]0 -
358 I would not complain ither. I believe her choice of ammo is right on. A few extra dollars to make her feel safe and your family safe is well worth it. Keep up the good work. [8D]
