Remington 870 Barrel Interchangeability

I'm getting conflicting information regarding the interchangeability of Remington 870 Barrels.

Will Express barrels work on a standard 870? If yes, are there any barrels that won't?

I am assuming obviously same gauge. And I know magnum barrels will work on my 2 3/4" receiver.

Thanks...need a second opinion.

    Rick, as far as i know they all interchange in 12ga.,with the possible exception of the Special Field barrels, i've been told. 20ga. is a whole different story. What is you are wanting to do?

    If you stick that magnum barrel on your gun, just remember that you still cant shoot magnum rounds out of it:)

    I have an U-G-L-Y plain barrel with an unvented poly-choke. Works great but whoa, perfect for hunting however.

    Looking for a 28 or 30" vent rib rem-choke for skeet and/or trap.
    Since I'm on a budget, I'm looking at used barrels and the Express seem to be most available.

    I will not likely to even need 3" shells so that's not an issue.

    I know some of the lightweights wont work on 20 guage. Dont know if its the same for 12

    That seller has been helpful and I probably would have already purchased had I not already had a bid on one at eBay. Just waiting to see what happens there first so I don't end up with two barrels. I also agree it is a very good deal.

    Express barrels will fit on a standard 870 or Wingmaster. I picked up one made in the very early 50's and the parts will swap out with a new one made today. But, you said you were wanting one not to be so ugly on your gun. Make sure you get one with the same finish. Most older guns are blued, most newer guns are dull (or matte or parkerized ). A miscolored barrel would not look very good either. The Special Field barrels are genetically different and will not fit.

    Good advice, thank you. Although I find the dull finish more practical, my rerceiver is blued. Out in the field I really don't care...but on the range I'd like to have something somewhat nicer to look at. However, I'd trade looks for busting all the clay pidgeons anyday!

    Hello, the new 870s with the "dull" or "matte" finish is just a blasted and blued finish, still blued though. ALL 12 gauge 870 barrels will work on ALL 12 gauge 870s EXCEPT for the Special Field. ALL STANDARD WEIGHT 20 gauge 870 barrels will work on ALL STANDARD WEIGHT 20 gauge 870s EXCEPT for the Special Field. ALL OTHER gauge (and .410) barrels will work on the Express or Wingmaster 870s of the SAME gauge (or .410). ALL SPECIAL FIELD 870 barrel will work on ALL SPECIAL FIELD 870s of the SAME GAUGE. Hope this clears that up.
