Seacamp .32 passable for defense?
I've been debating for quite some time about getting one of these.
Are .32's effective at all? I know they've got to be better than nothing, and in my case concealability is paramount. I want to carry but I have an office job that involves sitting at a computer in casual business attire. Sitting for extended periods means most waistband holsters aren't comfortable or concealed, unless I'm wearing a jacket or something, which is not practical for me. If a co-worker EVER saw that I was carrying, I could loose my job, even with a CCW permit.
I could conceal a .32 in a slightly altered trouser pocket, thunderwear type holster, etc. If I have to use it, though, will it disable an opponent? Anticipated range would be a max of 20 ft in a dark burgulary prone and deserted parking lot. (Any farther and I wouldn't need to be shooting at someone.) Anticipated use would be against an armed and startled car burgular or mugger. I frequently escort the ladies out to their cars when they work late and often lock up the building at night by myself in a moderate crime area. I'm a pretty fair shot with my J frame .38, the smallest gun I currently own and I train with it often enough that I could probably use it and other small weapons under stress.
Is the .32 a viable self defense weapon under these conditions, or am I just as well protected with something less abhorrent to my liberal coworkers, such as pepper spray, stun gun, etc?
My inability to carry at work is the main reason I haven't completed the CCW process, but if I could carry something small and effective, it would make this much more viable for me.
Thanks for your input.
FYI:
I do have better suited handguns to carry under normal circumstances, the .32 would be for these specifc conditions were concealment is critical.

You would be much better served with a KelTec P 3-AT.
Check out this link.
Although if your a resident of the great state of Kalli, I'm not sure that you could even buy one?

Im with Rufe Snow on this. The Seecamp is pricey and to the best of my recollection is only advised to use with Winchester Silver Tip ammo. Why get a gun that is a smaller caliber, about the same size, heavier, more exspensive and only reccomended for use with one certain type of bullet? 0 -
Trust and Rufe are on target. They about said it all except the Keltec is a .380 caliber, more effective than the .32. Check it out for its weight and flatness and price. 0 -
The Kel-Tec P-32 is a very small and light gun already and the 3A-t is only the slightest bit larger and heavier, but is still very small and light itself. From what I have heard from the Kel-Tec owners here they are very pleased with the reliabilty and quality/value of this makers arms.I beleive the Kel-Tec also holds more rounds. How can you go wrong. 0 -
I have the P-32 and carry it in a cotton rug in my front pocket undetected. It's narrow and light enough that I can carry it all day and hardly notice it's there. The only thing I don't like is the heavy and long trigger pull. I'm going to try to get some help with that.

I am in a similar situation as you in that I work in an office. I leave my firearm in either my brief case or desk while at work. I don't know of any concealable handgun that would be very comfortable under the conditions you discribed. Using your brief case expands your options for a larger handgun. Occasionally I tote my P-90 along, no problem. Good Luck

Seacamp's are nice, but at their cost they are not my first suggestion.
You've gotten suggestions on Kel-Tec, but there are others as well NAA in their 32 NAA chambering or move into 380, Kahr's if you can get around their "Moonie" linkage, Taurus, Baretta ...
Regardless, you need to stoke the piece with top of the line defensive ammo, and as w/ your J frame practice with both range ammo and your selected defensive round.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
If you had to use it you may be out of a job and if you hadn't the CCW
it could be worse. I agree with the 32/380 size Keltecs as the smallest, lightest defensive handgun but you have to be able to have it in your hand in a twinkling. Thunderwear with a slit side pocket or a pager holster may be the quickest at work, but having it in your hand in a side pocket holster, in the parking lot might be fastest.
I think you'd want to shoot at closer range than 20 ft for legal purposes.0 -
Thank you all!
You've given me much to consider.
Regarding shooting at less that 20ft for legal purposes:
I'm not planning a shooting at all [:D]
It's just that that would be the absolute farthest conceivable range I could think of given the available cover at that location. If it ever came down to it and I was forced to defend myself, I suspect it would be within spitting distance. [:D]

[:D] [:D] Food for thought..if ya consider a .380 over the .32 think about this for almost the same money you could move on up to 9mm compact, some are dang near a small as your 380s and would afford you a little better edge. i know,no one wants to have to use their carry gun ,but don't skimp on quality for a few bucks ..THINK, if you use it it is to SAVE your life...that means it must work all and every time,'cause if it decides to fail the one time you need it ..you may never need it again...just Food for thought.[:D] [:D] [;)]

I know its probably a little larger than what you want, but haveyou considered the Walther PPK? It comes in .380, and everyone I know that owns one absolutely loves it for carryign concealed.

Many folks carry at work because they have the license to carry concealed, not because anyone's likely to become disgruntled and dangerous. Job loss can be the price of getting caught carrying, or even using, a piece for self-defense in the workplace. Then come the legal and financial demons. Now your parking area, that's another thing. Perhaps you need something a little larger than a Seacamp.
This may have been poofed the other day, but if you start considering a slightly larger semi, think about the new small CZ RAMI or even the new ompact Kimber .45.0 -
I often carry a North American Arms .32 Guardian in a Pocket holster. It is similar to the seacamp but accepts more brands of ammo. You can carry concealed in the summer while wearing nothing more than shorts and a t-shirt.
In your situation, it would be better than going unarmed.

Colt 1903/1908. Least then you get the good old quality... I think the .32 will work fine if you're a good shot. Most thugs (especailly in Kali) are looking for unarmed sheep. Pull a piece of any caliber and 99% will run looking for easier prey 0 -
First order of business is to get the carry permit.
Since maximum concealability is your primary concern you're limited to miniature lightweight pistols. I can see when even the Chief can be too big, and in the steel version, too heavy for your purposes. My all aluminum Chief with laser grip sights weighs 10 ounces empty. Anything more powerful than that is going to be bigger and heavier. The 9mm or 40 cal Keltec is 16 ounces empty while the 32/380 Keltecs
much smaller and lighter at 6.5 ounces. All other choices are either larger, heavier or fatter or all of the above.
Weight as well as thickness are critical so I believe caliber has to be compromised and your best choice for what you're doing is the Keltec 380.
Thunderwear pouch holsters can conceal two 1911s very well but weight and bulk of any large pistol will annoy you 8 hours at a desk job.
PPs and PPKs look slick but they're heaver than some larger caliber pistols and they are not all that slim.
Some great, very slim pocket guns are the old 1903,380 Colt, the Remington 380 Mod51 and the LLama 380. Again, these guns are on the order of 20 ounces where today, you have a lot of choices.0 -
Kel Tec P 11. Yo have 10 + 1 of 9mm, which is not too bad, hang it in an ankle holster. Very few people look down at a man's feet/ankles. Any holster in the waist area will get uncomfortable in short order if you a lot of sitting. 0
