Winchester rates both at 2950 fps. The .338 is 200 gr., the .300 180gr.. So the .338 has more energy.

The 300WM with a 180g slug is a fast, flat shooting 30 magnum. The 180g packs a pretty good whollop at just about 3000fps. The 338WM at 200g does not have the sectional density of the 300WM & 180g. For the 338WM to be comparable you have to step up to 225g or 250g with the accompanied drop in velosity. So the question becomes are you looking for looking for a major whollop at 200yds or 350yds? No question the 338 will go as far as the 300, but with alot more drop. Given that I don't hunt at much more then 200yds I picked the 338WM. As to the value of a Ruger 338WM, is it new or used? How is it stocked? More info would get a better number. If you want a quicker answer, try the auction site and see if you can find a comparable rifle to help figure a resonable price. 0
