They are essentially copies of the Colt 4th model derringer.

The Colt Derringers, (Called No.4's) were all made by "Butler," and came out in 1959 and the early 60's. They were then discontinued. Again, in the 70's, Colt had Butler make another run of these in the 70's. The sets from the 70's were called the "Lord and Lady" sets. They could be had in sets or singles. They were either Blue Barrel with Gold Frame and smooth Walnut Grips, or they were all Gold with Pearl Grips, which was the "Lady." They came in a wooden case in the 70's, also, in a case that looked just like a Book and numerous ones on Placques, (wall hanging type). The Original ones from the lates 50's and early 60's came in a red leatherette covered "tin" case and there was two different serial number ranges so it is easy to tell dates of manufacture.

Butler also made many different types of finishes and sold them in pairs or singles, under their "Butler" brand name. The only difference between the Butler and the Colt is the Roll Markings on the guns.......all made by Butler! Colt originally designed their Derringer and allowed Butler to use the design and market their own guns made the same as the ones Colt had made and marked as "Colt!"

Butler made additional version of their derringer. One was chambered for black powder. Another was produced without a "recoil plate" & was sold as a "non-gun"; you could buy the "recoil plate" separately from another dealer.

The gold plating on these guns is only 1-2 microns thick. Do not clean, wipe, touch, or even stare hard at them; the "gold" will quickly disappear.

Thank you for your reply. This is a four gun set in one box. I would
post a picture of them but I am technoloically challenged. I can
not even hardly say that word. I had to have my wife spell it for me.
How ever, if someone can help me with that, I would be very thankfull.
If anyone would like to see them, I can send it by e-mail. You send
me yours, and I'll send you mine.

Here is the pic. of the derringers I have. Again these are a consecutive numbered set, #00-#03. They are also called-"Lord & Lady" and "Count & Countess". This set has been fired, and is for sale.

Get yourself some more pictures, Close ups, and List these for Sale on Gunbroker as an auction. I believe you might find a great deal of interest in this set you have. I'm only guessing but it appears the bottom set is all blue with walnut grips and the other is "nickel" with pearl instead of the gold with pearl....Correct???

Starting at top left, going left to right. #00, "Lord" gold plated with black chrome barrel and walnut grips. / #01, "Lady" full gold plated finish with perlite grips. / #02, "Count" full black chrome with walnut grips. / #03, "Countess" full nickel finish with perlite grips.

Pretty much as I thought. Those were the most "popular" of the finishes that Butler made. However, they made some real "ugly" ones, too. I have seen their "ugliest" in my opinion. It was a gray sort of parkerized frame with a black matte barrel with light gray plastic grips with no pattern to them. BAD!!! Hahahahahahaa!!!!
