Bersa "Thunder 380", or better, Ruger KP-89 0 -
You'll get a decent cheap gun but it won't be much of a target shooter.
Hi-Point's are low end pistols. Save up another $50-100 and buy yourself a Makarov 9x18 (FEG PA63) or save a little more and pickup a nice used Ruger 9mm.
Don't spend the money on the Hi-Point unless it's all you can afford, and in that case you won't have much to spend on the ammo for "target shooting" so maybe your better off to wait until your finances improve.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Bersa Thunder 380 - Great, reliable, inexpensive gun.

This question comes up quite often. I own several, they function well (considering the cost). For target gun, the question is "what" do you consider to be a target gun? One that goes bang and can hit the paper at 50 ft., or do you want to be in the black?
You will need to rework the sights and keep the firing pin area lubed and it can shoot 50 ft. (nothing over that)and hit the paper. I would never use mine for any serious target work.
They are ugly and heavy, but they shoot OK. I would agree with the comments above that a good used gun is a better value (no resale value on a Hi-point), but everyone has their reasons for buying what they buy.0 -
