Silvertip ammo?

Is silver tip ammo actually made of the element silver? Can silver be used as a solid bullet like copper?

    No and yes, but it'd be hell on your rifling.

    You know I think it's actually an aluminum cap if I recall the details correctly. I'll try to check it out and get back to you.
    As the other guy said silver would tend to leave a lot of residue in your riflings, as would all soft elements ( lead, silver, gold, aluminum, platinum,etc.) exposed to the heat and speed of modern rifles.

    The newer ballistic silvertip ammo has a white plastic/polymer tip on the bullets.............[8D]

    Winchester makes a Sivertip hollow point for short bbl pistols too. It has an aluminum jacket with soft lead core for max. expansion from short bbl guns. They make watermellons explode!

    But they do work. I shot a vampire last month, using the new silvertips. He tried to read the ammo box but couldn't see it in the dark. My .357 placebo was fatal.

    I carry silvertips in the Smith 640 .357 revolver.
