480 Ruger or 454 Casull?
Does anyone have the specs on these two rounds, ie muzzle velocity and muzzle energy? Which cartridge packs the most oomph?
Thanks

The .454 Casull max energy is about 1800 ft lbs. The Ruger 480 max energy is about 1200 ft.lb.

The 454 Casull is only better with bullets in the 300-325 grain range. If you are a reloader and start using bullets in the 390-420 grain range for the 480 Ruger, the 454 can't compare.

before you buy one , try to shoot each as the recoil between the 2 is quite abit different , I have owned both in the Ruger SRH 7 1/2" and to me the 454 was just plain a$$ nasty to shoot, the 480 was alot less punishing 0 -
The recoil on the .454 is dependent on the load and gun it is being fired from. I have the 6" Premier FA-83 and the recoil on that gun is not all that bad. I have shot the Raging Bull and the Ruger Super Redhawk and the recoil on those was much worse than on the FA-83. The FA-83 is a sweet shooting well balanced gun. You do get what you pay for when it comes to these guns. For those that cannot handle the recoil, they do make comercially down loaded .454 Casulls rounds that mimic the power of the Ruger 480, or you can just shoot .45 LC.
Allen was right in that you can do a lot more with the .480 if you hand load. If it were me, I would go with a Premier FA-83 6" barrel in .475 Linebaugh and be done with it.
