    Salvage33...

It sounds like you have one of the higher grade NIDs, but without knowing which specific grade it is, it really isn't possible to guestimate the potential value. Break it down and tell us what is stamped on the water table and on the bottom of the barrel near the lug. Also, one trigger or two? Extractors or ejectors? Serial number?

Thanx for the response...serial #35xxxx, stamped into the water table under where the left barrel rests is 2 and underneath that is a 1 G. On the lug is stamped "something" powder approved. On the lug that latches the forearm into place is a cartouche and the letter T. All serial numbers match, on the forearm, the reciever, and the barrels. It is double trigger, with extractors. I am assuming that the "something" is for smokeless powder, since I know it is NOT a damascus barrel. I have used it, a long, long time ago, and used modern ammo in it. The piece is still VERY tight, no wiggles in the wood or the metal, and yet is still as smooth as silk.

On the right side of the reciever is all the fancy scrolling around the edges, and a quail is standing between four clumps of grass. On the left side of the reciever, there is a woodcock engraved, same type of scrollwork and clumps of grass.

Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanx in advance,

    John

Appears to be a Grade 2 NID... it should be worth somewhere in the $800 range (possibly a bit more to someone who really wants it).

Based on the serial number you furnished, it is NOT a NID. It is a Flues model, which preceded the NID.

Okay..thanks for the info...but now I'm confused. Don't know what a NID is..or a Flues for that matter.

In any case, it isn't for sale...will be kept and cherished and lovingly cleaned and then handed down to my grandson. We have this tradition of passing guns down through the family. Every family should have that tradition, come to think of it.

Again, thanks for the info..I'll try to hunt up some more on it.

    Hello Salvage...

Crass, Lewis, Flues, NID (New Ithaca Double), are all specific models of Ithaca double barrel shotguns. Those that are familar with the Ithaca line of SxS scatterguns refer to them by the Model name. Looking back at the serial number you originally posted, it is a Flues Model versus a NID, and it was made in about 1920/1921.

Bert and Salvage--- to elaborate further, the Flues differs from the NID in that the Flues action lacks the strengthened barrel butts on the NID, the locking system is different(I thnk), and the Flues in 16 ga has short chambers--i.e. 2-9/16 as opposed to 2-2/4.

I appreciate all the info/help but will check the chamber to verify that it does have 2 3/4" chambers.

[?] What do you mean by "What now?"?

We told you what it is, and what it is worth (those were your original questions), do you have a different question?

    .... aahh I see.

OK, you have a Grade 2 Flues Model. Ithaca manufactured their double barrel shotguns in many different grades, starting with the plain Field Grade, Grade 1 through 3, 4E, 5E, 7E, and Sousa Grade(in order value).
