Value of NIB(Wood cased)S&W Model 27-2?
What would be the value of an S&W(Factory nickel)Model 27-2(NIB(Wood cased))with a five-inch barrel? This gun has never been fired! I need an answer soon-as a Gun Shop, is holding this gun for me(Until wednesday, 2/25/04!
Although, I would like to know the value of this gun, as noted above-please give me an idea of what price I should have to pay for this "Mint" 27-2(S/N N496132)? The Gun Shop, wants $550(For this "Consigned" gun)?
Is this particular, model 27-2 a good gun to invest in? Were the "N" series S/N 27-2's, built with any lessor quality, than previously produced 27-2"s? In the world of S&W's, is this specific model 27-2(I believe is 1978 vintage)a desirable gun to own-or, not? Give your reasons? Note: I have never owned a S&W gun before?
How durable is the factory, nickel finish?

The S & W Mosdel 27-2 was/is a big N Frame revolver that are extrememly strong and durable. It is the same frame size of the .44 magnum in the Dirty Harry movie. It is pinned and recessed and most of the ones that I have handled were pretty smooth right out of the box. My brother had one and I loved to shoot it. You'd better not let me get a chance for a new in the box one at $550.00--it would be gone seconds. As to collectability you will have to check with someone else--as I keep saying--I'm a shooter, not a collector. Good Luck. 0 -
27's are nice and they are popular, but the model is not really collectible due to relative age and the quantity produced.
However, new in a wooden presentation case with all of the accessory parts and paperwork ... $550 is a good price. If you and I were to switch places I would be countin out the money now as I do not have a NIB 27 in my collection.
If the papers aren't there or the accessories then that brings the price down to around $500 since the wooden presentation cases will generally bring $50+
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
I'd offer $450 or $475, and hope to get it for $500. $550 though is a fair price.
The nickel is a superb finish, and very durable.
A fine weapon to keep as an heirloom, I would not shoot it or let the cylinder turn.
As SP said - guns are not good, from an investment only standpoint.
