I need help!! w/ 12 ga SxS
Dear Gun Guys,
I recently inherited a shotgun that I am having trouble finding information about. It is a 12 ga. side by side double with double triggers and has a browned metal finish, not blued, and the stock finish is so thick that the wood grain opaque, almost looks painted. It is marked "Central Arms Co, St. Louis USA" on the side of the reciever, and both the barrel and reciever are stamped with the markings "T 14 312" and there is an "R" stamped on the locking lug of barrel. It is in fair condition. Who made it, where can I get parts and is it worth anything. Thanks,
Bald CO

Carder's book identifies the Central Arms Co. shotguns as being "Hardware Guns" made for sale by the Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St. Louis. They date to the early years of the 20th Century, prior to the Depression.
They were manufactured by both Crescent & Stevens, over the years. Other then for decorative purposes, they have minimal value nowadays, if their non functional.
As it's a least 70 years old it would be problematic to obtain the correct replacement parts, it's better off to just keep it as a family heirloom.

The Central arms shotguns were made by Cresent arms co.Cresent made guns that were marketed under various names by various co.s . They were utility grade guns that were sold by many different co.s thru different stores. They were a very popular using gun for the working man.Cresent was eventually taken over by Stevens sometime around the 1930s which became Savage. Most of the old Stevens sxs shotguns were built on the Cresent drawings.--Parts are sometimes hard to find. Some parts interchange with the Cresent Parts.--- Jack First,INC used to stock some of the Cresent parts : 1201 Turbine Drive - Rapid City,SD 57703 / (605)343-9544 / I just bought one in good condition for $275.00 / ..........Good Luck.......[8D] 0
