I have an Encore in .22/250 and the recoil is not an issue. The noise is substantial though. It does not compare to the .410 which in my estimation is more recoil than the .44 Mag.

I would agree on the noise issue. Are the 410 and 44 barrels you mentioned also for your encore?
Although I may never meet a gun I don't like on some level, In my mind i can think the main reasons for owning an encore or contender are:
    1. Versatility: its niche in the market is the variety of calibers you can have simply with a new barrel.
    2. Portability: without the receiver or magazine works, it CAN be lighter than other rifles in its caliber.
    3. Pistol configuration: not just the fact that it can be done, but it is strong enough for some WHOPPER calibers.

(Correct me if I am wrong: but can one freely change his encore from rifle barrel w shoulder stock, to pistol grip with long barrel as long as >26 inches total is maintained? Or do you have to buy one made as a pistol and then it can have the shorter barrels? I mean, that's the POINT right: the ability to have a multi-caliber-pistol-and-rifle-all-in-one???)

    4. Economical: after the initial layout of capital, its is relatively cheaper to build up a multi-caliber collection and have something in your repertoire for a variety of applications.

    5. Less legal hassles: it is not semi-automatic, so does not fall under the purvue of the NFA or AWB, etc.

I have a buddy with one that is totally high-speed for accuracy and he LOVES it. You can see it the way he holds it; like an infant son. That was kinda contagious so I have been looking into these, as well as working on sporterizing a milsurp to a similar configuration, ever since.

So I gotta ask you about yours: do you like it? Is this your baby or just another nice firearm? Or, do you not like it at all?
    C-

Either Contender or Encore you can fit the shoulder stock w/ any barrel over 16 inches in length.

Either platform offers you a lot of caliber and setup options.

Initial cost is quickly overcome as barrels are added and you would compare the cost to buying a discrete gun in each caliber.

    Both are very accurate.

I enjoy single shots, especially hunting as you need to work yourself into position for the best possible 1st shot.

My Encore .22/250 has a 16 inch barrel. The .410/.45long colt is also a pistol barrel. It is convertible to a rifle or 209/50 muzzleloader in 5 minutes. I also shoot contenders in various calibers, and love them. T/C backs their products second to none. Due to my stupidity I broke a piece on my muzzleloader, called T/C and they offered to fix it no charge and pay the return postage. I opted for them to just sent the part which they did, no charge.

[:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] AH! CONTENDERS RULE, got two frames and about a half doz bbls.the .35 Rem in a super 14" is great when ya get to the 45/70 then ya got some recoil, the 35 Rem is non ported ,the ported bbls get awefully loud, but on the 45/70 i think you would not care for it not ported.
