For self defense if you needed to shoot would you use a 9mm Glock 10 shot cap. or a Colt Defender.45acp 7 round cap. Reason why I am asking is because I now own both and work in some pretty cruddy areas sometimes. Both are similar in size and weight but the caliber to magazine capacity got me confused

The very first 'rule' in choosing a pistol for self defense is:
Make sure the caliber starts with the number 4.

Go with the colt![:)] A 9mm doesn't have the stopping power needed. Also glocks are ugly[xx(] 0 -
I do not care which one but you better practice practice and practice. Bullet placement is way more important than the number of rounds or the calibur. my 2 cents [8D]

i would carry the one that u can shoot the best with. either one will do the job if you put the bullet in the right spot. 0 -
I personally prefer the 45, but the advice on bullet placement is good advice.Go with the one you are most confident with,is most dependable, and you shoot the best. And don't skimp on ammo.Make sure you get quality ammo with premium bullets(especially with the 9mm)..........[8D] 0 -
Colt, Colt, Colt. 7 rounds of something is better than 10rds of nothing. 0 -
If you are not likely to be in a fire fight with drug dealers the mag cap is fairly unimportant. What is important is putting the bullet where you need it. Use the pistol with which you are most proficient and as Gap1916 said, practice, practice, practice!

I dont see where a 9mm is so not suited for self defense with the right round.Low recoil means more, accurate shots being able to be let off and no gun fight ends with one shot.So the more accurate, fast shots you can let off will be a plus. And remember 2 9mm's in the chest is better than 1 .45acp to the chest. If you cant handle the .45 as well dont feel unprotected with that 9mm.and I like the idea of a double action gun for carry as opposed to a single action you have to carry cocked. That glock you can just buy a clip to mount on it and carry it with no holster. 0
