I have a Thompson Center rifle barrel in .375 JDJ for a G2 contender with a wood stock. The barrel has never been fired. What would it be worth?

Hear, hear! My thoughts exactly when someone with a historical weapon asks "What's it worth?".
If you are only concerned with money, than money is what you shall have. Sell it to a collector that admires and appreciates it for what it is.

A "historical" weapon is worth whatever you want it to be. Pay or not. I have some that no a mount of money will buy them. I also have some that I will give away. So, what is it worth?

Hmmmm.....let's see. An auction site where guns are bought and sold, and some people want to know the value of guns....how strange!

Welcome to the site but your in the wrong forum if your trying to be witty or sarcastic. Most people who ask these questions in this forum are either trying to establish a value for insurance purposes, have inherited a piece that they have no knowledge of, or are trying to settle an estate for a friend's widow or someone else. There are other valid reason but why bother. Its their business and those who try to help them and no other persons-period. You don't want to help-ignor the question and go on about your business. This forum is suppose to be for the purpose of bringing together those people who need help with those people who can provide help.

You folks make valid points without meaning too.

AUCTION SITE. Put them on auction and see what the value is.

INSURANCE. Don't you need a written appraisal by someone competent to give one?

GRANDPA'S GUN. Why, you gonna sell it?

I usually do ignore those post unless there is a compelling reason not to. Some guy wanted to know if dealers were trying to rip him off on a NEF rifle. Those guys are trying to sell it and make no pretense of anything else. I see no problem helping him out.

Pinhead(good name for you by the way.. touchy, touchy, some of us just are not as smart as you maybe! Sorry, I forgot to ask your permission to comment)- Granted, there are always exceptions... but; "I HAVE THIS BRIDGE, WHAT'S IT WORTH?"[;)]

p3 / Idahjo, the "worth" question is a valid one from people who don't know and don't have the resources. Sometimes its idle curiosity, sometimes could be not so much for insurance as it is "is it worth enough to have it insured? - without paying some hotshot wiseguy $50 to tell you it's a $55 piece of junk (certainly not all appraisers are this way, but I've met many who couldn't wait to dazzle you with their brilliance or baffle you with their bull roar, and were firmly convinced their bathrooms had the odor of a perfume factory!). As for auctioning something, OK, person doesn't know and lists a $5,000 firearm for $150 and guess what, it only attracts one bid? Improbable, yes, impossible, no. Not everyone asking has the resources (references or connections) to ascertain values on their own, especially when it is something older or esoteric. The folks who offer ideas of values are under no obligation to do so; it's a matter of personal generosity.

Never claimed to be smart. But you did answer my two part question--are you trying to be witty or sarcastic. We now know we can leave out the witty part. Never said you couldn't comment either. What I said was yu were in the wrong forum and that is still true(matter of fact both of us are). This topic should have been posted in the General Discussion Forum or The Political Forum. I'm surprised it hasn't been moved already by the moderator but I guess he's cutting us both some slack. I also tried to explain to you why someone would ask the question but I think that went right over your head. Now if I am wrong show me where and I'll be glad to ask you poor little pardon. Mighty lame attempted insult - save it for someone who will be bothered by it. Insults just let me know I'm gettin to ya.

So what does any of this bull roar have to do with the comments Idahjo made. I didn't think we asked any question. We are free to speak our personal opinion? Or does the forum monitor want to "correct" us?
