Springfield 1911 A1 45acp
Hi I'm looking at buying a springfield 1911 45 and I don't noanything about the springfield it was made in 1988 and is almost new with the box How does this compare to the colt 1911 and does it stand up to a modate amount of shooting 500 to 1000 rounds any help is appreciated Thanks in advance Lee

Personally, I think Springfield Armory guns are better than Series 80 and later Colt 1911s...they are NOT as good as Series 70 1911s.
Heck, I had a Springfield Armory 1911 that I used for IPSC shooting and sometimes I'd do 500 rounds per DAY in practice.
One of the nice thing about the Springfields is they don't come with the annoying firing pin block safety that came on the Series 80 and newer Colts; this means it's easier to have a gunsmith do a better trigger job.

Hey I have one of the early first issue Compacts 4" barrel. One of the most accurate outa the box 1911's I have.

is it a Mil-Spec, because you can get an new Spring 1911-A1 Mil-Spec for under $400 new.

Don't know how prices run in your region, but for my area $450 is starting to run to the high side. 
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0
