There are many many aftermarket sights for a 1911 available. You can either try to find sights using the existing stake holes and rear dovetail cut which are avalable, or you can go with a little more custom touch and have the slide milled and front dovetail cut.

That was kinda what I was hopeing to find out. So the front sight is staked into the slide? I have only seen this gun once and I can't recall how the front sight was attached. I figure as long as it isnt machined into the slide then it should be replaceable?
    Thanks

your looking at a good price and there are many after market sight options that including the gunsmiths labor should run you under $150

however, with this said you are at $530 and from time to time Springfield runs so pretty good deals on their "loaded" models, so you just might want to check around.

One source would be www.galleryofguns.com and use their "gun locator" feature. Another would be: www.springfield-armory.com

Then of course there are the auctions here on GB and er.... other places[;)]

If you buy that gun...you will be engulfed with endless possibilities of upgrades and custom features. the price at brand new is great. even used not bad. I would get it and then spend another 200-300 bucks to customize the living hell out of it. Like one of the guys said, the sights can easily be changed out for many different brands of various types of sights

I would buy the pistol and then shoot it for at least a thousand to 2 thousand rounds before deciding on sights or any other upgrades. Since you have never owned a 1911 before, my advice would be to take the time to get used to it first. By the time you have run a couple thousand rounds through it you will know a whole lot more about where to go with options. Right now you would be guessing based on what you are hearing from other people's likes and dis-likes and not on what you yourself want. Take your time and enjoy the learning. Just the thoughts of an old man who loves and shoots the "flying ash can".

Buy a good platform gun - Springfield Armory is a good start.
Then as suggested since it is your first 1911, go through a couple of thousand rounds until you know the gun intimately. Only then would I add anything, and then only what proved to be an improvement.

If we do not hang together we will certainly hang separately.
