From your limited description it appears your rifle is either the Model 1868 or Model 1870 Springfield Rifle.

These were so called "Trap Door" breech loading rifles, chambered for the US 50 - 70 cartridge, and used lockplates that were left over from the Civil War.

Depending on condition and originallity, this rifle could be worth a substantial amount of money.

Since in your post, you haven't given us any idea as to the Rifle's physical condition or if any thing has been changed since it left Springfield, we can't help you with the value.

Your best bet would be to find a HONEST & KNOWLEDGEABLE local dealer or colector for a hands-on appraisal.
