novice russian ammo question

What is the main difference in the flight/energy characteristics of 5.45X39 vs 7.62X39 ammo? I'm assuming that the 7.62 has greater stopping power, but the 5.45 shoots flatter . . is this correct?

  You are right Flat8 the 7.62x39 has greater stopping power and can be used for Deer hunting while the 5.45x39 is like a .223rem it's a flat shooting round and can't or shouldn't be used for Deer.
  The 7.62x39 round is cheaper at the moment but not by much.
  The 7.62x39 is good to hit things out to about 250yds while the 5.45x39 is good till about 500yds.
