You may have something that is more valuable "as is" rather than restored. Be sure before you have it done.

Also, since you've stated that you do not want to work with the "name" restorers ... be sure to check examples of the shops work.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

You will kill all collector value in the gun if you have anyone, including the factory re-finish the gun.

Dan, it's your gun & you can do whatever you want to it. If you just want something that looks close to original, & you have no concern about the collector value, go ahead.

However, the term "restoration" is a misnomer in this case. You can't really restore your gun; all you can do is have a high quality refinishing job done. I've seen Doug Turnbull's work, & it's definitely high quality. However, the prices asked (even by Doug) reflect the fact that they are refinished, not original. An original gun with the same % of finish will always be more desireable than a refinished one, period.

If you find someone who you think does better work than Doug Turnbull, please share the name with us.

your post asks for a restoration request. restoring a gun. that in itself is confusing. what are you restoring it to? factory specs? perfect working order with new parts? or did you want to refinish your gun to look new with old parts? refinishing is finish. restoring is rebuilding. hope i helped.

I had Doug Turnbull do a complete job on a beat Winchester Model 42.

You won't find anyone better. Plus they are a good bunch of people.

Sounds to me that Contender Man has hit the nail on the head...! Be real sure of what you're contemplating...You stand the very real risk of turning a $500.00 gun into a $250.00 shooter...
