S&W / Walther PP, PPK
What exactly is the deal with these pistols? Is S&W the MFG, importer, or just distributing them? Who is building them? I know interarms built them here for a while, but I can't find any current info. Are they decent? I played with a prewar PP for a while, are the current ones remotely as solid?

They were being made here in Alabama for Interarms. Not sure if the manufacture went to MA or not.
The finish is nothing like a pre-war, but what is?
They are still good serviceable weapons although (personal preference as I'm not a S&W fan) I prefer an Interarms model and have carried one for over 11 years.

Walther USA is distributed by Smith and Wesson. Here is a link if you would like more information. I have the SW99 series in .45 and compact .40 and the frames are designed by Walther.

The PPK/S is currently produced in Houlton, Maine.
Under the "Walther" logo on the slide are the words "Smith & Wesson".
An odd note: S&W carries a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser;
Walther manufactured by S&W does not.0
