Browning A-5 Light Twelve
I traded for a Browning A-5 Light Twelve shotgum this weekend at a show and would really appreciate some help from anyone who can give me a little background on this shotgun. This is my first Browning semi-auto and actually, only my second semi-auto shotgun (Remington 1100) ever. The serial # is 80XXX and there is a letter "G" stamped above the number. The barrel is stamped "Made In Belgium",on the right side. On the opposite side it says "Browning Arms Company St. Louis Mo. **Special Steel-12Ga.- Shells 2-3/4". there are several other stampings that appear to be proof marks with letters and numbers. The barrel is approx 28" long and has no vent rib but does have cross hatched engraving down the top center of the barrel. There is a Hartford Gun Choke Co., Inc. "Adjustomatic choke attached. The Butt plate has the initials FN in the center and the words Browning Automatic around the outer edge. The pistol grip is rounded at the end. The firearm is in exceptional condition with wood at least 95%, the checkering is as sharp as any new gun. The bluing is easily 95%. The only thing that I find unusual is the gold on the trigger is mostly gone and yet the internal mechanism and bore appear to have very little use. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could tell me how old the gun is, what is it's value if any as a collector or shooter and anything else that may be significant. I am planning to use the shotgun primarily for dove and quail...is this gun a good choice? Thanks, Jerry

Your Browning auto 5 was made by FN in Belgium in 1957.The barrel on it is known as matted rib. This shotgun was made from 1952 to 1976 by FN and from 76 to 99 by Miroku in Japan. Now discontinued. The FN made guns in exc. condition have much collector interestVery high quality, and you probably won't live long enough to wear it out.
p.s.-the adjustable choke on the end of the barrel is aftermarket. The gold plateing on the trigger face is soft and wears quickly.0 -
s4shooter--As you probably know, collectors want guns to be completely original.Haveing the aftermarket choke on the barrel hurts the collector value, but it is an excellant shooter. In my opinion, and many others, the best auto shotgun that ever was or ever will be made. 0 -
the gold on browning triggers acts as a wear indicator. its one of the first things a collector looks at. sounds like yours has been shot some. its a shooter. does it have any choke marks on the bbl? it will look like an * or **-. if not, it means your choke was factory installed. the adjust-0-matic is a rare puppy. it will shoot one choke and for the second shot, you can adjust it to tighten up or open up for #2. id like to see a beretta do that!

A friend of mine asked me yesterday what I thought a Belgian made Browning Auto 5 was worth, told him I didn't know but would ask ya'll. Said he found one in 12 ga. in exc. condition. Don't have the serial number. Approx. value if possible. Thanks in advance.[;)] 0 -
its not hat easy. it takes more info to quote a ballpark. bbl style, length, choke, engraving, stock, pad, etc...give us more and we will give you more. 0 -
Sorry, that's all the info I have at the moment, will attempt to get more. The seller is asking 400, I'm just trying to help keep a friend from getting burned. Thanks again. 0
