Does anyone know the market value and is there a way to check the serial number to see that it is not stolen. The reason I ask is because a friend is selling one and I don't want to get a hot one. Any info would help.

Seriously, you can take a firearm to your local police and have them run the serial numbers to determine if it's been reported stolen.
You don't say whether this is a stainless steel model or blued, nor anything about its condition, but in "decent" condition I'd expect to pay $175-$200 (the higher for stainless steel).0
