Hi - Names "Marvin" ...
What am I and where did I come from?
Hints ...
> I'm one of a kind.
> I grew up in the midst of beef and corn fields.
> One of my ancestors made quite an impression in the movies.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!

AN ARMED SOCIETY IS A POLITE SOCIETY<P>0 -
S&W model 629 with non fluted cylinder, probably originally had a full length under lug.Black matte or teflon finish over original stainless, custom barrel work, butt crack ugly..........[8D] 0 -
[;)] Sorry, Marvin--birth defect? 0 -
OK ... I get the message, one persons pride is a yawn to the rest of the world[B)]
Anyway for the 1 or 2 that may have an interest. I ran across this revolver a few years back. It caught my eye (wonder why) and the first thing that popped into my mind was Marvin the Martian's trusty pistol. Hence, the naming of the revolver.
Marvin started life as a Smith Model 29, but all that remains today is the frame (which has modified yoke retention) the trigger, hammer and some internal action parts. Cylinder, barrel, etc. are all non-Smith. And the finish is a custom teflon coating.
The revolver is the product of Tom Volquartsen's (Carroll, Iowa)skilled hands and imagination.
When I acquired the revolver I contacted Tom and asked him for some history on the piece as I'd never seen one cataloged, etc. And Tom responded that it was built for a customer that wanted something "different" and that it was the only one built because the cost and time required to do the conversion put it out of the "commercial" range.
From a bagged rest at 50 yds., if the shooter does their thing, Marvin will produce 5 shot groups that are basically "one hole". And with regularity hits 16-18 inch targets/gongs out to 500 yards. Yep, the gun may be "butt ugly" (in the eyes of some), but it is one accurate piece.
Those of you that are familiar w/ Tom's work know that he creates some "unique" designs in addition to his niche in the custom 22 world, and that his 17 HMR pieces are very popular.
Been fun, and you didn't really hurt my feelings ... because I don't have any( [:D] ) + I've heard it all before and out of all of my Smiths and Contenders this revolver is one of my favorites.

don't worry ContenderMan, ugly pistols need attention too. It's a good thing it's a shooter, though. 0 -
I actually kind of like the way it looks. guess i'm in the minoraty.
But please enlighten me, what is the caliber? or is it really a ray gun.

Mike,
M29 = .44 Magnum . . . "C'mon, punk, make my day" . . . hence the clue "One of my ancestors made quite an impression in the movies." Even though the one Eastwood used was fitted with a .45 LC cylinder for some reason - probably the ready availability of blanks. As to the appearance . . . I guess if I was making MOA groups with a handgun at 50 yards . . . maybe . . . "different strokes," I suppose.

Hey Contender Man. Didn't mean to offend with the butt crack remark. Just a poor attempt at humor. Actually it's an interesting piece. And if it's that accurate it just got more interesting........[8D] 0 -
thanks contender and iconoclast. I don't know a thing about revolvers.
yet.
