I think that a pretty neat one to add to your collection would be one of the Russian capture 98Ks that is in excellent condition and still has all of the German markings. They apparently come in all grades and with, without, or with some of the markings. But if you got one of the excellent condition ones with all the original markings plus the fact that it was a Russian capture rifle, you would have a shooter and an interesting piece.[:)]

Depends on what you want to spend and what your interest(collectible, history, etc.) If you just was a cheap shooter the turkish mausers and the vz24's are hard to beat for price-just be careful about condition. If you want one in prime condition and a shooter, the yugoslave 24/77, 48, & 48A can be had in very good to excellent condition from about $140.00 to a little over two hundred. Most of these come with bayonet and cleaning kits for that price. If you want a real pice of history, then your option is one of the Russian Captured German 98's that are in country right now. They start about $179.00 and go to well over two hundred depending on condition and whether the nazi stamps have been defaced by the russians. Most of these that I have seen have been in very good or better condition and one or two that I have seen had what looked like excellent bores. Now if you want a pristine condition mauser you can look on the Mitchell web site(just don't drool too much on the keyboard) at www.mitchellsales.com -- these start about $295.00 and go to about $500.00 but the latter especially are truly like new and come with all the accessories. If I can help further, just e-mail me. Good luck-Pinhead

As long as you want a good one, you can still get an all matching vet bringback for under $1000. You might have to wait awhile until one comes up here or on the OTHER auction site and most likely it will be a late war.

Sometimes you can get one that only has the bolt different and that is still better than a recent import.

P3skyking is giving good advice. Also, you might want to check with Dennis at Empirearms.com. He has a nice selectionof German K98s in varying conditions/prices. In my opinion, he understates the condition. Good luck.
