Changing Barrels

I recently bought a Rem. model seven with the 18.5 inch barrel chambered in 7mm-08.
I really wanted a .308 and still do so i was wondering if it's possible to buy the 18.5 inch barrel from Remington in .308 caliber and have it installed in place of the present one??
Would there have to be changes made to the magazine as well??
Lastly would the expense be so high that one would be better off just selling the 7mm-08 and finding the same rifle in .308??
I am not a gunsmith but a hunter and would gladly take it to a qualified gunsmith to make the swap,that is if it's even possible.
Any help is appreciated.

    It will be an easy switch and shouldn't even cost that much to do. Look for new take-off barrels from people that are building custom rifles and buy one of those barrels in .308 Win. Take it to your riflesmith and have him headspace and check the feeding, although it should feed just like the 7-08 since they are both made from the same case. I don't know what your 'smith will charge but the barrels can be gotten for as little as $40.00 to $50.00 on several websites.

    Should be a direct swap if you can find another Model 7 bbl in 308.I don't think the 308 bbl has a heavier outside taper on it. If it is a little heavier taper you may have to open up the barrel channel on your stock to make it fit. Other than that everything else is the same(magazine,follower,boltface,etc.).....easy swap......Good Luck Texas.........[8D]
