1000 Remington
Hello all,
Please forgive any misspelled words as this is my first time posting at this site and I haven't found the Spellcheck button yet. Also please forgive me if the issue I am bringing up has been addressed here in the past. I have an 1100 Remington which I purchased back in the mid 70's. This gun has never failed me in the many duck seasons since that purchased. I am concerned that the steel shot that I am using is taking its toll on the barrel and as such I have contacted Remington about purchasing a new steel shot barrel. They have informed me that they no longer produce replacement barrels for my model. The problem is, my gun is a LEFT HANDED model. If anyone out there has any idea where a new steel shot compatable barrel can be purchased please let me know, shall I start looking for a new duck gun from some place other than Remington.

Save the 1100 for dove, rabbit, quail, if its not to late, steel does destroy barrels in the earlier models. Get a new duck gun. nambu 0 -
blindtom, welcome to the forums. A R/H barrel would be easy. Check with Corson's at www.corsonsbarrels.com If you don't see it, ask! Lots of $$$, but you could have the bore chromed and Briley steel shot choke tubes installed. 0 -
if the gun has already shot out its choke, bring it to a smith and see if your bbl will accept screw in chokes. have him mike your bbl walls for go/no-go. since the screw in choke can be for steel shot, youll be back in business and your choke will never wear out. the only other issue would be needing a chrome lined bore. new bbls are all chrome lined to keep them from scratching. if yours is already scratched, so what? follow me? i vote for a screw in system modification to your existng gun. its cheaper than a new gun.

DON'Y WORRY ABOUT YOUR 1100. WITH THE TYPE OF PLASTIC WADS THE SHELL MAKERS ARE USING THE STEEL NEVER TOUCHES THE BARREL. JUST SHOOT YOU GREAT SHOTGUN AND ENJOY.
I WOULD RATHER BE DUCK HUNTING.0 -
I have seen some barrels "roughed up" by steel. I still think you ought to buy a new gun, BECAUSE , one can never have to many IMO. nambu 0 -
BLINDTOM, One question i forgot is; what is the choke in your barrel, assuming it's a fixed choke? DUCKHUNTER, I have seen a few roughed up also, and 2 that split the end of the barrel. But not on any Remingtons. 0 -
contrary to what dhunter says, not all the pellets in the wad stay inside the wad. some are in front and beyond the protection of the wad. (its how your gun got scratched to begin with. pick up a spent wad some day and you will see where pellets on the outside closest to the bore sometimes get forced threw the plastic. and not all loads have wads. some are buffer loads with felt pads. but the most important thing is... if your choke is almost gone because it got worn out from steel shot, you need to do something to get your pattern back at distance. look into chokes.

trap55.im assuming he has a mod or full choke. he said he takes it duck hunting. its gotta be ic by now! 0 -
That was my line of thought too! Tom, to install the steelshot tubes they may have to cut your barrel off behind the choke restriction. Give Briley a call and they can tell you. 0 -
Thank's for all the help and suggestions fellas. I hope my reply gets back to you all. I'm still struggling and finding my way around this message board. I did leave out some info on the barrel. It's a fixed choke (full) and a 30 inch barrel. To my naked eye there doesn't seem to be any scoring of the inside but one never knows for sure. Once again thank you for all the input, you guys have a wonderful site here. 0
