Browning A-5 barrels
With the help of this forum I was able to tell that I have a standard weight 12 ga Browning A-5 2 3/4" chamber shotgun made in about 1954. It has a plain jane barrel. I found a 12 ga 2 3/4" chamber barrel for an A-5 with a raised rib in good shape for $60. It looks like a newer model. Are these barrels interchangable? Is there a difference in barrels that fit standard weight vs light weight models? I have sent my A-5 off to be reblued so I am not able to see if it fits. Thanks

Appreciate your help in determining a plain barrel from a matted barrel. Thanks! 0 -

A plain barrel is just that, it is as smooth as a babies butt.
A matted barrel has a swath of what appears to be knurling along the entire length of the barrel at the 12 o'clock position. (I own an A-5 Light Twenty with a matted barrel).

matted bbls were designed to reduce top glare on the bbl. they were suppose to be an improvement to plain bbls.
