I can only answer 1 of your questions.
Encore barrels only fit Encore frames.
Contender barrels will fit the Contender and the new G2 frames, but NOT the Encore frame.

barrels for encore only fit on the encore same with the contender , I own 2 contenders and 1 encore , like both models , you can get barrels for the encore in the larger cals. where as the contender is more for the smaller stuff ie pistol cals. and smaller rifle cal. I just purchased a new G2 contender carbine with the 45x209 black powder barrel for just under $500 , usually new encore and contender rifles start just over $500 and go up depending on what they are , hope this helps a little [8D]

Both the Contender and the Encore are fine platforms for a multitude of calibers.

The Contender platform is the original and there are barrels chambered from 17 HMR to 45-70 and a couple 3rd party muzzle loader setups as well. The Contender frame basically went through 3 evolutions or generations ... the last generation proivded an easire opening action and the rimfire, centerfire selection via a selector on the top of the hammer. The biggest plus w/ the Contender is the ability to adjust the trigger pull weight. Biggest negative was that the break action of the pistol cocked it and even w/o the hammer cocked you could trip the sear by accidently engaging the trigger. Pistol wouldn't fire, but also wouldn't cock until action was recycled. Other drawback was the pressure handling ability of the frame. One tough pistol but frames were stretched with higher pressure loadings.

Encore came about to provide a stronger frame to support chambering of the higher pressure rifle calibers. Also the design was "easy open", but the trigger pull weight is not adjustable. Standard 209x45 and 50 black powder setups were also TC factory offerings instead of 3rd party only. And the Encore does not handle rimfire.

G2 falls between the original and the Encore ... designed to handle all of the barrels produced by TC for the Contender it has a stronger frame and the ability to recock w/o cycling the action. However it does not have an adjustable trigger pull weight. And there are factory balck powder for this model as well.

Contenders have been discontinued for few years, but there are a lot of them out there so the secondary market, at reasonable prices, is good for a while yet.

Encores have a strong following and I suspect they will be around for some time to come.

G2 is new, but they are selling well.

While Contender and G2 barrels will interchange the grips or shoulder stocks will not. Forends will but the G2's are a little more massive so the Contender forends look a little out of place. However, don't look to TC to continue to make new barrels for the G2 that will fit the Contender. Evidence to support that statement is provided by the black powder setup for the G2 ... it will not work w/ a Contender frame.

Initial setup be it Encore or G2 or used Contender will be a little pricey (with the latter being the least cost) but the overall investment comes down when you begin to add other barrels as you are now getting multiple pistols/rifles for less than what would be paid for the same quality in individual firearms.

    Hope this helps you.

how much range does a encore 15" barrel take off say the 25-06, plan on deer hunting more then likely. its between a encore or a revolver or maybe one of the weatherby vanguards, trying to stay in the $400-600 range so i can buy a scope to go with it

The point blank range of my 15" Encore 7-08 is about 20 yd less than the BPR of my wifes 18.5" 7-08 rifle and about 50 yd longer than I feel confident using a handgun.

Edit for spelling, and to add that, as Contender Man said, I'm the limiting factor NOT the pistol in how far out it will take game (this from a guy that's confident out past 400yd with a rifle).

Unless the record has recently fallen the World's 500 meter accuracy record is held by an Encore ... using a 15 inch barrel if I recall correctly. Can't remember the caliber. But the point is not the caliber, it is that the pistol has capabilities that far exceed the skills of the average to above average shooter/hunter.
