Sprinfield XD sub-compact 9mm or 40?
I am trying to decide on which to get for my CCW? Ohio has finally passed their CCW law. I have shot both versions by Glock, but only the 9mm by Springfield. Thanks in advance for any help.

I own a XD40 with a 4" barrel. The pistol is real tight and I never had a problem with it.It is very consistant at the range and that makes it a great shooter.
I would never own a glock, don't like them . to many people at work that have them tell me there problems and I smile and say ,should've
bought an XD by Springfield.

Thanks for the info. I've heard both good and terrible about the Glock.

Glock is currently one of the "pistols to hate"
Glock's have good performance records in tests running to 5,000 rounds or better.
Now with that said I'll just come out and say that I don't care all that much for them ... just the way they feel in my hand and a tendency I have to setup and fire high. Think it is basically a grip angle thing for me.
XD grip angles are close/similar to 1911's and I have had both 9 amd 40 cal. Function was very good and I did not encounter the high firing problem. But triggers could be better. However this is a service/fighting gun not a target piece and for it's intended purpose it does the job.
Caliber wise the 40 has more punch and thus it does have more recoil/muzzle flip than the 9mm.
Find a ranges that have rentals and try both, then you can make up your mind based on actual feel, etc. If you can't find rentals in both cal. check amongst your circle of shooting friends and their extended circles and maybe you can find someone that will let you try theirs.
Lastly you may find a range that has new and used gun sales and a used 9 or 40 that they would consent to a test fire. Ideally they would have both and if your serious about a purchase they might be more inclined to let you try them with the understanding that your buying one of them.
Other than that your pretty much stuck with buying one and hoping you made the right choice. Not a comfortable position to be in.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Why not combine them and go with the .357 Sig...better ballistics than both of the others.[:)]

I personally bought an XD 9mm in the 3" barrel for ccw. It just depends on if you notice much difference between the two rounds. The .40 has a bit more stopping power with a bit more kick. The 9mm should give you a tad bit more control between shots but not to much difference to worry about. Just depends really on your preference of the two rounds.
