(anyone) I want an a$$ kickin' scope
A close FFL friend of mine has one of these ar15-50bmg franken-rifles. He has just found (his love) a Barrett semi-auto 50, and is going to buy it. I have the opportunity to get the Mutt-50 for a "VERY" reasonable price.
I was starting to look at tactical optics for the thing, and the scope that I found attractive was a Springfield 6-20X56 model.
I have used (on limited occasion) this scope and enjoyed it's user friendly features.
I was once told the springfield will not handle 50bmg!?
Does anyone have any suggestions on tacticle scopes they prefer?
Are the optics clearer on competing scopes?
Any one with a comment or experience with a similar situation please chime-in with your story.

In one word,LEUPOLD

Look at the specs on all of them.......keeping in mind you want to be able to see a "fly" on a fence post.......at a 1 mile distance. After you find one that will see this far...........rocket launch it into a brick wall! If it with stands this type of impact, (Recoil matching), and can be picked up and used accurately after this, you might be able to count on it.........
With scopes, most manufacturers charge for "value received." Given their formula of about two times the rifle's value.........you might want to consider "iron sights" and slightly closer targets........Hahahaha
Seriously, when you find one and it works.....let us all know because this is an Issue to be Addressed, in my opinion. I think there are a lot of us that would like to know about this subject!!!!

Good fixed power scopes are your best option. You can forget using variable power scopes for this application. A good fixed 16 power will probably be your best bet for long distance. You may want to consider having a second scope that is of fixed 10 power range for more reasonable target ranges.

SA(Hakko) makes junk.
Do the Leupie MK IV 16x. It has the eye-relief,internal adjustment and guts,to hang tough while dealing long range precision..................0 -
This is asking a lot of a scope! I agree, go fixed power and look at Burris or Leupold. SA is not worth your time or the price.

Springfield scopes are expensive Garbage,Nothing but an import with the springfield name I owned 3 over the years and had the usual cheap scope problems with them like leaking jammed power rings and so on.
Look tward a Leupold or Burris they are cheaper in some cases and
much stronger and better made in my opinion.

If you wish to own the lamborghini of scopes,..and want sure-fire performance in any recoil level with tactical adjustments and great glass,....the word is NIGHTFORCE NXS. It's it,..and that's that.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....
Got Balistics?0 -
I had a Burris Black Diamond 3X12X50 with Mil-Dots on my 50 BMG. You don't need a scope that will allow you to see a gnat at 1 mile as you won't be able to hit it anyway.[:)] Majority of 50 BMG's will shoot better than their owners.

Leupold, U.S. Optics, and Nightforce come to mind as the proven scopes that would fill the bill. 0 -
