Winchester Model 12 Fair Market Value?
I have a Winchester Shotgun, Model 12-12GA-2-3/4" CHAM FULL, Matching Nos. 1262723, Barrel approx. 29" LG. This is a very plane gun (no design on stock nor pistol grip, only verticle slots on pump handle), but it is in very good condition (mechanically perfect, bluing very good). It does have normal wear and tear (scratches on stock and around the area where the chamber mates with the barrel, and one slight scratch on the left side of the chamber). Some of the white is rubbed off of the plastic pad on the end of the stock. This gun was a gift from my mother to my father--I think in the 1950s. It was used for pheasant and rabbit hunting. Can anyone tell me what year this gun was actually made, and what is the Fair Market Value for it? If not, can someone provide a reputable source for such info?
Thx.
Thx.

Win Md 12: Unfortunately you have the most common Md 12 made. A well built gun, and there are still a lot of them out there. Since it's been in your family a long time, that value you can't put a price tag on. Duckhunter is close, for the value of your gun, on the internet you might get a little more at auction, but not much. Since these guns have been out of production for 40 years now, the real value comes in parts. I see a lot of Md 12s being parted out and sold, and just based on what I've seen the last couple of years, the total could bring you closer to $400. By the way the barrel is measured from the face of the breech bolt, (in the closed position, all the way forward) to the end of the muzzle, you should get 29 and 3/4 to 30 and 1/4, this would be known as a 30 in Full choke barrel.

Thank you, Dave, for this informative reply. From now on I'll refer to the barrel as a 30-Incher. As a young boy, I used to patrol the corn fields and pastures with my father and our Springer Spaniel when he went hunting with this gun. He used a double-barrel Ithaca 12 Gauge shotgun prior to the "Win 12". What a diffence the Win 12 made in the amount of bounty that we brought home! 0
