Beginner 22 revolver
I am thinking of getting my 11 yr old son his first revolver for Christmas 2004. I am looking at the best value in a three/four inch barrel and seem only to come up with taurus. I have had quality problems with this manufacturer in the past ,anyone have any thoughts on who makes a good wheelgun in 22 or is the taurus good in people's experience. Thaks for any help you can offer!

I second Ruger - either the Bearcat, or the Single Six if he is big enough.
I also like the older S&W M63, with Woolf springs.

ruger or taurus are fine but get a beginner a pistol with adjustable sights, would prefer 5-6 inch bbl minimum,, single or double action is a toss up... prefer one with transfer bar safety...get a good shooting one...a pistol that he can't develope skills with will ruin the game.... 0 -
try HERITAGE ARMS SAA revolvers. they now come with target style adjustable sights, several differant BBL length and grip style configurations, and its a .22LR / .22WIN MAG dual cylinder conversion piece. i own one, and its a great, cheap, beginners handgun. best regards, mike.

Single action for sure.
Ruger Super Single Six, both cylinders, would be an excellent investment for your son.

For me this precludes a Taurus or Hertitage Arms.
Ruger, S&W, & Colt will retain their value better than a Taurus. He will probably never sell his first handgun, don't skimp.

Hello, Jon, and Welcome To The Forum! Always glad to see new members with new experiences to add. As for the question--I've had nothing but good experiences with Taurus, and let's not forget that lifetime guarantee. Their Model 94 is pretty nice. I've got a Ruger Bearcat waiting for my 2 1/2 yr. old granddaughter as a first handgun, but think there's nothing wrong with a double action revolver with adjustable sights either; and in fact see some distinct advantages. Definately don't start him out with a semi-auto pistol or you're likely to develop a machinegunner instead of a marksman. Also, a little more of an accident potential. Best wishes.[:)] 0 -
Well you cant go wrong with a Single Six Ruger It will be a joy to shoot for many years.

Ditto most of the above. I could kick myself for selling off my Ruger Single Six .22lr/.22mag convertible, purchased in the late '70s for under $100! For teaching safe handling, cleaning procedures, and good shooting technique, you just can't beat it. With 5-1/2 or 6" barrel, the lad will find it highly accurate. He won't have much fun if he can't hit the target. I still own mostly wheelguns (Ruger, Taurus) with tranfer safety bar systems. Spend time and teach him well, it'll pay dividends for both of you.
