I saw one of these at the local gun shop today. I'm interested in getting one because I think they're neat and I'm also quite fond of shooting the 7.62x54R. Can any of you guys give me some info on it. What should I look for? Problems with them? It was in very nice shape for a surplus weapon. The guy wanted $500, which is a tad less than the others I've seen around. The Blue Book lists it at $365 in 100%. Is this realistic?

I have no person experience handling/firing one, but the ones I've seen sell for more in the $300-$350+ range.
I'm a fan of the "Russian Ought-Six" myself[:D]
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
Here's a excellent site, that gives you the skinny on the Tokarev Rifle as well as many others.

I had one back in the '60s. Really cool rifle, prety accurate, and built like a tank. Mine had a worn sear, I had it welded up, and it worked fine for years. The muzzle break works well, and I could find no problems with it. Don't know if parts are available now, you might check that first, after all they are what??60 years old now.

I just sold mine for $500 and it had a dark and pitted bore. Otherwise it was in great shape. I would look for matching numbers on everything from the stock to the trigger group, especially on the bolt. Most of the numbers will be stamped in, curvy parts like the bolt may be pencil/vibra etched in. Lastly there were, as I understand it and I'm no expert, two basic versions. Sniper and semi/full auto. The way to tell them apart is if there is a notch on top of the rear most part of the receiver. On all versions that I have seen there are grooves on the sides of the receiver for the scope rails to slide into. Only on the Snipers did they cut the scope locking notch on top of the rear of the receiver. This will be aft of the sliding bolt cover and above the swing away bore viewing port. If the bore cleans up and looks good then I would have to consider it as there aren't that many of them around to choose from. 0 -
Look at the magazine lips. Some were not especially well made and some worn and cracked. They can be repaired fairly easy so don't turn it down for that, use it for bargining power. Good rifle otherwise. 0
