Thank You Saxon, I was hoping you would reply. I double checked the serial and model number and no H was found. The six digit number on the butt has no room for an H.

I doubled checked this serial number and it is a six digit number with no H. Thank you Saxon, I was hoping you would respond. This is an old gun that is in poor condition, unlike the rest of my smiths and I was curious.

The "H" prefix started in 1969

"-1" is the only change reference used from 1961 until revolver discontinued in 1976

The started life as the 32 Hand Ejector on the I frame and contined on through the improved I frame and then to the J frame.

Post war s/n range is 536685 - 826977 when the change was made to the H prefix for the Models 30 and 31 starting w/ H00001 and running until H161201+ (ending s/n is not published)

Unfortunately my Standard Catalog of S&W 2nd Edition only provides a s/n and year range of: 1961-1970 for s/n 712954-826977, so w/ the partial number you supplied I'd guess circa 1968 (or there 'bouts).

    Hope this helps.

If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!
