GreenLantern and I went shooting this last sunner with someone that had a .50 upper and a AR15 lower. He got his lower at DPMS, it was in STAINLESS STEEL. VERY heavy duty! Worked good! Maybe check with DPMS for a price ..... Let us all know [:)]

There is a guy around here that manufactures the single shot 50's mounted on ar lowers. Has made and sold a bunch of them. I always thought that the weak point was the mounting area at the front of the receiver, but never heard of any breaking. Used DPMS and Oly lowers, didn't need the stainless steel to make it work.

When they came out with the "California Lower" he started using them, since you didn't need the magazine well anyway. They were actually a little more expensive than a standard ar lower, but they looked a little cleaner for this application.

If your going to do all the paper work (4473) to get a lower.... Why not get a lower that you can at sometime make it into a AR15??? [^]

Well, actually I was going to get a 50% lower or even a reveiver blank casting that i could drill/polishthread/etc the absolute minimum necessary to work with the appropriate (i.e. simplest) bolt-action upper.
So no FFL to buy that- either piece actually.
And if very little finishing is needed on the receiver blank, it may still qualify as less than 80% finished, in which case the whole kit would not even legally be a firearm until/unless it was actually assembled!
    Now that's kinda cool!

hmmmm, a 50 bmg, with no serial numbers, and unregistered? It would be cool until you get caught, not like a .50 attracts any attention, small and quiet guns that they are.[;)]

Actually, as long as I put a serial number on it: like cpilerisillyproject1, then it is perfectly legal unregistered and all, as long as i don't sell it- which isn't going to happen! Yeah, like I'd go through all the trouble to make my very own unique rifle only to sell it off.
Maybe some guys but not me.
    Kinda cool!

I think you need to tell the FEDS that you have put a serial number on it..... You are making a firearm, right?
