Victory Model ??? Pix Worked this time
Following are 4 images that David sent to me. In looking at these images basically everything points to a 38/200 British Service Revolver aka the Model K200, S&W Pistol #2
However ... there are NO British markings, but in an email to me David mentioned finding some other markings when he was maing the digital images. Those markings are on the back strap below the hammer and the markings are the capital letters "NZ" with a small marking that he can not make out next to the "Z" and below those letters are the numbers 4585.
So my thoughts are that this is a 38/200 made prior to the start of the V prefix and that the yoke numbering is not the s/n of the revolver. Also I don't think the revolver ever made it to England. It was stamped US Property and maybe intended for "Lend Lease" to England, but I think it may have gone in a different direction, say to New Zeland ????
All of us "Smith Nuts" know that the Brits stamped the snot out of any of the weapons that came their way and this one don't have the first Brit mark on it.
I've asked David to try and get digital images of the back strap markings as well as the top strap, and will post them if he has any success.
The images really help, as soon as I saw them I chucked my "bucket of parts" theory. Boy would I love to have my gnarled old paws on that revolver for a couple hours.
Last thing before the pix. Has anyone seen the NZ markings David has mentioned. I haven't nor is there any reference that I can find in my books, but, it is late and my thinking could be clearer. OK here's the pix:
