Hate to tell you this, BUT chances are you have a Belgian knock-off.

The double barrel hammer shotguns Remington produced in the 19th Century were marked "E. REMINGTON & SONS, ILION, N.Y.". Note Remington is only spelled with one "m".

The single barrel shotguns that Remington manufactured. starting in the late 19th Century were marked "REMINGTON ARMS CO. ILION, N.Y. U.S.A.

Generally the Belgian guns had very distinctive proof marks on the barrel and frame. If you give them to us, we would probably be able to give you additional information.

I think....but could be wrong...that You're trying to discribe a Remington-Rider Shotgun...it could be a Number 1, or Number 2. They are a Breech Loading, Single barrel [plain] came in 16 and 20 gauge. {This series has a Rolling Block action}It weighs about 6 1/2 lbs. E.Remington and Sons, Ilion, N.Y. U.S.A. and Patent Markings on the Tang...Value is going to depend upon the condition..Excellent Condition is Worth $1000.00...Good Condition...$650.00...and Fair Condition...$450.00...and Goes down from there!
