military sidearm
Did the military drop the 9mm beretta and go back to a 1911 style 45acp? I have heard this and wanted to know for sure. As always thanks for your replies.

I have not heard this. There are several units that use a side arm other than the Beretta 9mm. To my knowledge, today the 9mm Beretta is still the standard side arm of the US military.

No. However, there have been some contracts let to Kimber and Springfield to produce limited quantities for special ops.
The standard issue is still the Beretta and will most likely, for better or worse, stay that way for quite a while.
If you only have time to do two things so-so, or one thing well ... do the one thing!0 -
the mil. hasnt gotten rid of all their 45's yet. and specops is always contracting on the side for cool stuff off of normal supply lines. they have bigger budgets to do so. you ought to see all their cool stuff. and knives...i swear every blade maker has the best knife and pitches it to specops!!! gimme a k-bar anyday. they are cheap to replace and work fine. anyway....45 and m9 are here to stay. bet ya didnt know some milpolice, sqd's, and rent a cops on base still use s&w m-10's. did ya! and the s/s s&w wheel gun in 357 4" is still the prefered one for underwater. amazing.

OK I will go out on a limb here. The .45acp is a very good round. I would move it up a notch to the 10mm. It will do everything the .45acp will do and more. My 2 cents [8D]

I too keep hearing the military is going back to a 1911 type .45acp. Might be some truth to this as so many are repeating it. The berreta M-9 has many problems when put to heavy usuage, as evidence by our local Highway Patrol using it for some 10 years now, and constently replacing slides and orhter smaller parts.
Don't know what pistol would replace the M-9, but hope it is a 10mm or .45, the 9mm never impressed me during my military tours. Yes, many people were wounded and eventurally died, but more were knocked down and stomped with the .45!!
