The 22Hi-Power was once a wildcat centerfire cartridge based on the 25-35 Win. case.It was first introduced commercially by Savage in their Model 99 about 1910-12.It was very popular chambered in custom rifles, especially single shots. It fell out of favor in the 1930's most likely to the 219zipper, and then to the later Remingtons .222. The Hi-Power used a .228 bullet, the trend went and stayed with .224.

I've owned a couple, and enjoyed shooting them. Norma loaded them for while, as did a Canadian firm CIL. If you reload, and can find some brass, you're in luck. I think there is still .228 bullets, but not sure.

This is a very interesting round and much more could be said for its illustrous past and evolution, but hopefully this covers the basics.

Hey pack- Just read your post and that 1920 date rang a bell. I think the 1912 was when Neidner first developed the round. While it can and now most often is formed from 30-30, originally the 25-35 was used since the case taper and length was already there.

    Love them Pre-64's!!!!-Bob

DR, the .22 High Power is a centerfire cartridge, shoots a 70 grain bullet about 2700 fps, obsolescent in this country.Cases can be made from 30/30 brass and a little work. Maybe some European companies still load it. How about it, others?

Savage brought out the .22 HighPower back in the 20s and has been obsolete since the 60s. Only ammo is availabel from the old westren scrounger. basicily the 30/30 necked down to .228, only Hornady makes bullets for it. Great round, just hard to find. Jack O"connor liked it for wild donkey plinking and zebra If I remember right.

I bought a Savage 99 in this caliber last year. Just one of those...........just had to have one. I think Cabelas and maybe Midway have ammo and brass. I bought new ammo, Sellier & Belliot off GB last year at a very good price. All above are on the mark except for the ammo is becoming a lot more available, at least has been the last few months. I will have to pull one of the bullets just to see if it actually has a .228 bullet.
