Good moose medicine? Are you trying to heal the moose or kill it?

In Scandanavia the 6.5x55 Swede is used regularly for moose. .30-06 is plenty, so the .300 will be fine.

I agree with He Dog. If you know your rifle and you know your round you will have your Moose. Stick with what you know. [8D]

I lived in Alaska for a while and probably about half of the locals who hunted moose used a 30-06. Most of the the rest used a 300 mag or a 338. A few would bump up to the 375 but that was more for a rare encounter with a bear.

I agree with everyone else, 30-06 is good, 300 win mag is also fine. As long as you have good bullet placement your fine.

All of the above are good answers. My personal choice is 30/06. It will kill anything on the North American continent, including grizzly bear, when a good bullet of proper weight and the placement of that bullet is in the correct spot. Personally I would feel better with a .338 mag. or bigger on grizzle. You can buy 30/06 in any store that sells rifle ammo and the availability of good bullets and a wide range of bullet weights makes the 06 a top hand about anywhere. Pinhead

The 300 win.mag. is plenty of gun for moose or probably anything else with good bullets. The 220 will do it but I don't think you even need that much bullet weight.Just spend the few bucks for a premium quality bullet like Nosler partition, barnes x,trophy bonded bear claw, swift a-frame, win. failsafe,etc.--Moose aren't near as tough an animal to kill as an elk for their size, they just have so much bone and muscle mass that a poorly placed shot has a hard time penetrating and the extra recoil of the heavy 220 grainer may make you place your shot poorly if you've not practiced enough with it.-- Just make sure you use a good bullet and that you and your gun shoot it well..............[8D]

I use my Gibbs 303 or 45-70 for moose and so your 300win mag will be more than ok

I hunted with a guy 2 years ago, he was moose hunting with a 30/06 and Remington 180 grn core locks. He hit his moose in the right hip at about 100 yards(buck fever), and the bullet exited out through the throat? Guess the '06 is enough gun if it will go thru that much moose!!

The 30-06 is a fine moose caliber as long as you use Premium Bullets Keep your shots under 100 yards and wait for broad side.In my opinion the best moose rifle is a 338 win mag but it REQUIRES lots of practice and then some more practice before you dare to take it on a hunt.If you are confidant with a 3006 then by all means use it[;)]

My Dad probably killed 35 moose in his 40 years in Alaska. He never used anything but a 308 Winchester. I never saw him shoot one more than once. He also killed one Grizzly and several Black bears with the same rifle. I use a 308 Norma mag, as well as a 350 Rem mag. I just graduated to a 458 Win mag, just because I wanted to. Going to load it to 45/70 + specs, just because...
300 is enough rifle by far...

It ain't what you shoot, it's what you hit.
