ARISAKA RIFLES / DESIRABLE ARSENALS / MANUFACTURER
if the arsenal / manufacturer / date of production / etc... effect the values of US military arms, and the mil-spec / issue guns of most other countries, were can i find out what combinations of the above stat`s affect the value on JAPANESE ARMS???
example...
an INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER (IHC) M-1 GARAND with an LINE MACHINE CO. (LMR) BBL is worth a premium.
what arsenals / years / etc... are more desirable for ARISAKA RIFLES???...
i have done research and made up some files for customers here at the shop on about 10 ARISAKA and MURATA rifles in the last 6 months. we have a few more unsold here behind the counter. i have even purchased a TYPE 99 ARISAKA SHORT RIFLE for my collection.
we have obtained several referance books on these series of arms to suppliment my existing library. MILITARY RIFLES OF JAPAN 5TH EDITION by HONEYCUTT and ANTHONY is the best of the lot. the break down each gun by type, year, KANA symbol, arsenal, etc...
they have the best guide to markings, translations, history, etc... that i have ever seen.
i have been able to provide an enormous amount of data and history for fellow collectors and buyers. i have not been able to factor this data onto an evaluation of $$$ worth.
all my guides rehash the same paragraph of information. early guns worth more / better made. later guns not well made.
are some arsenals more valued than others??? best regards, mike.

for instance...
i like to add a few pages to my gun files on the ARSENAL and its history. usualy its easy to find out information, and when the ARSENAL is still around, sending them a polite letter with the SER# can net you a wealth of information on the gun / arsenal / history. i include these letters in my file folders.
in the case of my TYPE 99 ARISAKA SHORT RIFLE 7.7mm this is not possible. my rifle was produced by the TOYO MANUFACTURING CONCERN under supervision of KOKURA ARSENAL technicians in the HIROSHIMA PREFECTURE ARSENAL WORKS. obviously i can not send a brief note requesting information in this case.
i am trying to acertain how these factors will effect value. there are some easy to spot indicators that we can all use. CHROME LINED BBL`s are desirable for shooters, and indicate early production guns. sight type and variation are key also. the type of bolt handle knob, buttplate, BBL bands, etc... are all easy to disearn and helpful.
condition of the gun, finish, markings, matching numbers, etc...
i just draw a blank on wich ARSENAL`s and what DOM, and other variations do to value. its a little frustrating. best regards, mike.
